Peter Downie died on the 22nd August 2008 after a long battle with cancer. He was a well known sportsman who many people inspired. He was the coach for the NZ womens basketball team who won bronze in the 1989 Deaflympics (formerly World Deaf Games) in Christchurch. He was a great basketball player as well in his early days. Our sympathy and thoughts go to the families of Peter.
